To: [the Countess Anna Marie Erdödy, Hernals near Vienna?]
Vienna, c. July 1810

Anderson v1 pg282 - letter #270

You would search in vain to find in yourself even the slightest reason for the behavior in which I am now indulging.  No, my present state of mind is just like that. Indeed I wanted to go to you from Schönbrunn yesterday, but I should have had to return.  And as I myself, once I have gone to see you, cannot leave you without forcing myself to do so, I had to abandon my plan – I really do believe that you are perhaps a little bit fond of me.  Hence I take this opportunity of telling you that you are all so dear and precious to me that it would be hard to find a greater measure of affection – I shall be with you again as soon as possible – Continue to be fond of your true friend
